Background (contributed by Sharon Brennen-Haylock)

UN/CARICOM Meetings take place every 2 years, alternatively in the region and in New York. The 4th UN/CARICOM Meeting took place in Guyana in 2007 (
CARICOM Press release), and the report of that meeting was debated at the recent 63rd UN General Assembly (GA). It culminated in a resolution entitled Cooperation between the United Nations and the Caribbean Community (draft resolution A/63/L.38 to be issued as A/RES/63/34). The upcoming February 2009 meeting will review the status of cooperation between the UN and CARICOM, and will also form the basis of the report to be submitted to the GA at its 65th session.
Resolution adopted at 61st session:
A/RES/61/50
